FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS CAMP KINDNESS COUNTS?

Camp Kindness Counts is a unique, fun, and inspiring non-profit focusing on the social-emotional and character development of kids.  Through our programs, we teach kids how they can make a positive impact around them with their acts of kindness and inspire them to want to continue to be positive role models in their communities and beyond!

WHY YOU AND WHY US?

Kids deserve to show us the kindness they are made of, Parents and Educators want help in building this foundation and We absolutely Love and Believe kids can be the positive change around us.  Camp Kindness Counts has a great program and exciting plan in place to show the world what kids are made of....KINDNESS!

DO KIDS ENJOY SPENDING THEIR TIME SHARING ACTS OF KINDNESS?

YES! How do you feel when you do something nice for someone else? Kids have those same feelings and when recognized and acknowledged…these intrinsic feelings become unmatched.

DO YOU SEE KIDS WANTING TO CONTINUE WITH THEIR ACTS OF KINDNESS?

YES! We’ve seen kids feel inspired and happy when doing good. We feel their body and mind like this feeling of make a difference, empowerment, accomplishment, and belonging in the community.  These experiences lead them to naturally want to be "kind leaders”.

IS THERE A NEED FOR AN ORGANIZATION LIKE THIS?

Most definitely!  A Wall Street Journal published an article titled : Little Children and Already Acting Mean.  Research cited in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology and through the American Psychological Association has shown parents want their children to become kind, compassionate and helpful as a top priority. Children learn generosity not by listening to what their role models say, but by observing what they do.  With bullying increasing in schools across the nation and kids communicating less with real life beings and more with mobile devices, we feel a focus on active and mindful kindness will in fact, be the turning point.

HOW IS MY CONTRIBUTION USED?

Your contribution will help to empower and teach our youth how their kindness can make a positive difference in and around them.  They will actively connect their kindness with other children, animals, communities, and environments, while supporting other non-profit organizations.  Your contributions will be used to help operate, administer and expand the following projects:

  • Camp Kindness Counts Camps and After school Programs in elementary schools across the U.S.A., to help foster positive social-emotional skills, reduce the bullying and inspire kids to be positively impact their surroundings as individuals and in a group.  These programs enable kids to actively practice mindfulness and empathy while also learning about other service oriented nonprofit organizations.

  • Camp Kindness Count Family Volunteer Events which give kids and families those important "hands on opportunities" to teach and inspire youth to be the positive change in their community.

  • Parent and Community Workshops which give parents an opportunity to learn how they can build on the skill of empathy with their child and as a family.

  • Website/Outreach platforms where kids  have the opportunity to practice empathy and make a difference in communities

WHERE DO THE KIDS LEARN ABOUT AND SHARE THEIR KIND ACTS?

The kids learn by connecting with the community, family and friends directly as well as virtually.  These are just a few of the organizations which we have been fortunate to connect our kids with:

  • Seattle Children’s Hospital

  • The Humane Society and MEOW cat rescue

  • Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

  • Seattle Aquarium’s Puget Sound We Love You

  • University District Food Bank and ShelterBox

  • ForTerra and EarthCorps

  • Various Assisted Living Homes and much more!

DURING YOUR CAMP SESSIONS, WHAT IS MY CHILD DOING WHEN THEY ARE NOT SHARING ACTS OF KINDNESS IN THE COMMUNITY?

We are preparing for our day and for the week ahead. For example if we are going to an assisted living center at some point, then we would use this time to make gifts for the elderly. We also use this time to reflect on our impactful experiences, practice mindfulness exercises, play team building games and let loose at various parks!

HOW DO YOU TRANSPORT THE KIDS EVERYWHERE?

Currently we are able to transport the kids to various locations with our volunteers’ and counselors’ vehicles.  Until we are able to obtain larger vans, we're thankful for everyone's generosity and volunteer commitment.
