By Matt de La Pena

A young boy rides the bus across town with his grandmother and learns to appreciate the beauty in everyday things.

 1) Why did CJ have to take the bus with his grandma?

 2) Was Nana kind to the other bus passengers? Do you usually say hello to other people when you see them?

 3) Was CJ kind to the blind man who boarded the bus? Was the blind man kind to CJ and Nana?

 4) CJ seemed to want things other people have - to be in a car, headphones with a music device, etc. Do you ever feel that way?

 5) What did the blind man suggest so they could listen to and feel the music in a stronger way? Did it work? Have you ever tried?

 6) How did CJ show the man with the guitar his appreciation?

 7) Did Nana get as upset as CJ to see how dirty it was around the place they lived? What did she choose to focus on instead? How could she always find “beautiful where he never even thought to look?” A: Gratitude

 8) Where did CJ and Nana end up with many others? Why did they have to go there?

 9) How do you think CJ and all those people, who got food at the Soup Kitchen, felt? A: Grateful!
